7 Creative Ways to Decorate with Pumpkins

7 Creative Ways to Decorate with Pumpkins

Embrace fall by filling your home with these unique pumpkin decorating ideas suitable for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Candle Holder Pumpkins

If you plan on hosting a party or event this fall, this centerpiece is for you! Simply gather a few small pumpkins, drill five holes in the top of each, and insert thin candlesticks into the holes. Adjust the candles so that they sit at different heights. Arrange the pumpkins on your table with some fall foliage beneath them, light the candles, and your centerpiece is set for the entire fall season.

Silverware Pumpkins

Carve a simple fork, knife and spoon into a pumpkin, and add a light inside for a perfect addition to your special Halloween or Thanksgiving dinner. Create a cute menu to go with it and set them out for all to see.

Gold Marbled Pumpkins

Use this marbling technique to add a sophisticated look to your fall decor. All you need is liquid gilding, a small disposable container, a popsicle stick or straw, and wax paper. Here’s what to do:

  1. Fill the container with 3” of water.
  2. Dip the stick or straw into the gilding and then drip it onto the top of the water. Some will sink, but the majority of it will float.
  3. Once you have about 20 percent of the water covered in gilding, swirl the water around with the stick or straw.
  4. Carefully and quickly dip your pumpkin into the water and back out again.
  5. Place it on wax paper to dry overnight.

The amount of marbling on each pumpkin will vary depending on the amount of gilding in the water. For a solid gold pumpkin, add more gilding to the water.

Wire Picture Display

For a quick and easy way to display your favorite Halloween or Thanksgiving memories, consider this fun DIY picture display idea. All you need is a pumpkin, craft wire and needle nose pliers. Using the pliers, wrap and bend the wire into a concentric circle with a long straight stem. Cut the wires at different lengths and insert them into the pumpkin. Use the wire wrap to hold your special images.

Pumpkin Buckets

Carve a large opening on the top of a faux pumpkin, paint the inside, and either leave the outside alone or decorate it as you see fit. Once it’s dry, fill it with treats, use it to hold silverware or napkins for a seasonal party, or anything else your heart desires.

Dessert Stand

Another creative way to display holiday treats is a unique dessert stand that can be used over and over again. Simply cut off the top of a faux pumpkin as flat as possible. Then, using a really strong glue, affix a plate right on top. Make a few different versions at different heights for multiple desserts. Be sure to hand wash when needed. It is not suitable for the dishwasher.

Candied Pumpkins

Using pins or hot glue on a low heat setting, tack pieces of candy onto a pumpkin until it is completely covered. Do this to several pumpkins, all different sizes, and set them out for guests to help themselves for a fun, interactive centerpiece. Consider doing this as a hostess gift, or for a children’s party — but for a children’s party, be sure to use hot glue instead of pins.
